Revelation, Chapter 6

This is part of a bible study on the book of Revelation.

Revelation 6 kicks off the judgments that comes over the earth, and its people. There are three sets of seven judgment:

  • Seven seal judgments
  • Seven trumpet judgments
  • Seven vial judgments

The judgments gets progressively worse as it proceed through the book of Revelation. It happens over a total period of seven years.

Note! How could God possibly knows what would happen thousands of years before it happens? But, time is a dimension, and God is not bound by it. He saw the future at the beginning.

Isaiah 48:3-5: “I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass….. I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.

Prophecy, a solid foundation

Revelation 6:1 And I saw when the Lam opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.

The Lamb that opens the first seal, and every other seal, is Jesus Christ Himself. See more Revelation, Chapter 5. John was told to come and see with his own eyes, and he gets a first glimpse of the future worldwide Tribulation.

Revelation 6:2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering and to conquer.

John saw a white horse, and a man sitting on it. This is not Jesus Christ, but the antichrist. He is wearing a crown, in Greek “stephanos.” This is an emblem of conquest, and victory. That is to say, he is given control of this world politically, militarily, economically, and religiously.

Four apocalyptic horses

Note! The first four seals are the famous “apocalyptic” four horses. A white horse, a red horse, a black horse, and a pale horse. These horses move, and they move fast, it is sweeping the whole world.

Jesus Christ is coming on a white horse in Revelation 19. This rider on a white horse is a pretender, an imposter, the antichrist. Remember the satanic trinity is a perverse form of God the Trinity:

  • Satan – pretends to be God the Father
  • Antichrist – pretends to be God the Son
  • False prophet – pretends to be God the Holy Spirit

Through the ages, there were many types of antichrist. Nimrod, at the Tower of Babel, was the very first one attempting to unite the people against God. This rider on the white horse is the antichrist that succeeds in pulling of the One World Order, the world united against God.

This rider has a bow in his hands. Meanwhile, we read of the “flaming arrows of the evil one” in Ephesians 6:16. Paul tells us to wear the armor of God so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes. Well, this is his grand scheme, in the last days.

Daniel tells us this antichrist starts out as a peace maker, concerned with the peace between the Jews and their enemies. In short, that is when the clock starts ticking, a seven year period of global calamities. Daniel 8:25 “He shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many.”

Revelation 6:3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.

Jesus Christ is opening the second seal, and the second beast told John to come and see it.

Revelation 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill on another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

A second horse, a fiery red one, comes running. Consequently, peace are being taken from the earth. The NIV says: “to make people kill each other.” And, the ESV says: “that people should slay one another.” This speaks of provoking, and a force behind it.

Revelation 6:5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.

Jesus Christ is opening the third seal, and the third beast told John to come and see it.

Revelation 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

A penny, or “a denarius” was a day’s wages in Roman times. Enough to buy wheat to make bread for a family of four, for one day. In other words, famine is breaking out, not because of scarcity, but because of politics.

Revelation 6:7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, come and see.

Jesus Christ is opening the fourth seal, and the fourth beast told John to come and see it.

Revelation 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

We know that one-fourth of the earth is land, where we live, and three-fourths of the earth is water. Thus, authority is given to the rider over the whole population of the earth. People are dying because of the four horses running, and the consequences. And, those who don’t believe in the Gospel are going to hell upon death.

There are different views about the “beasts of the earth.” Firstly, wild animals becoming ferocious as their food supplies are disrupted. Secondly, deadly pathogens, viruses or insects. Thirdly, the henchman of the antichrist kingdom, and its vicious and brutal character.

Some translators describe this colour “pale” of this horse as a “vomit green.” Not good!

Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.

10. And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

11. And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

The four horses came, and now, on to the last three of the seal judgments. These souls are those who turn to accept Jesus Christ during the Tribulation Period, after the Rapture. These Tribulation saints will either be Jews or Gentiles. They are calling to God, not for vengeance, but for God’s justice to come. They are anxious for it to be over, but God is telling them to be patient.

Revelation 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

13. And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

14. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

A mega earthquake, and cosmic upheaval like never before.

Revelation 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and very bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and int he rocks of the mountains;

16. And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17. For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand.

Meanwhile, the rich and powerful has built themselves bunkers in the mountains, and under the ground, to be safe. But, in vain, God is shaking them out of there hiding places, and they become very scared.

Note! The 7th seal is still to come.

Jesus Christ is talking about the signs of the end times in Matthew 24. Here in Revelation 6, they are happening.

(Matth 21:11)
(Rev 6:12-17)
Parallels between Matthew 24 and Revelation 6

Note! The majority of scholars believe the actual Rapture happens in Chapter 4, as I have pointed out before. One very credible scholar, Dr. Baruch Korman, says the Rapture happens right after Chapter 6. His reason for this is the fact that Chapter 6 ends with the words “for the great day of his wrath is come.” A last warning, before the Rapture comes.

The End.
