Revelation, Chapter 19

This is part of a study on the book of Revelation

Revelation 19 is a glorious chapter! Heaven opens up, and Jesus Christ returns to earth, the second coming. The essence of all prophecy unfolds in all its glory, in this moment.

God poured out twenty-one plagues on earth. Babylon is in ruin, and now comes the last battle. It is referred to as Armageddon.

Many prophets wrote about this moment in time, and Isaiah was one of them.

Isaiah 64:1-2 “Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down! That the mountains might shake at Your presence; as fire burns brushwood, as fire causes water to boil; to make Your name known to Your adversaries, that the nations may tremble at Your presence!”

The consummation of the marriage is the Groom and the bride joining together to be together forever. It happened at the Rapture. See Revelation, Chapter 4

The Church is out of the way while the Tribulation is raging on earth, for seven years. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ returns with His bride, to reign on earth.

The Beast system, the One World Order, is down. Their Beast of a leader, the Antichrist, is still standing like the last villain in a James Bond movie. He goes around, staggering on his feet, but he launch his last plan.

Revelation 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:

Alleluia means “God be praised.” The New Living Translation says: “what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting.” It is interesting, because we have this idea that heaven is like a cathedral, solemn and quiet. But, John saw people filled with excitement in heaven.

Note! Spurgeon said: “We do not know yet, beloved, of what happiness we are capable.”

Revelation 19:2 For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand.

God is righteous and true. When He judge, it is not based on ambition, lust of power, or the extension of His dominion. He is not like world leaders who were utterly corrupted and together built a Babylon, the One World Order. John described his vision of this system going down in Chapter 17 and 18.

“The blood of His servants” are those who were martyred for their faith in Christ:

Revelation 19:3 And again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. 19:4 And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia.

John saw much worship in heaven as the smoke of Babylon’s ashes went up.

Note! We red the Tribulation saints asked God to avenge their blood. Revelation 6:10 ‘”They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?”‘ Now, God avenged their blood, and they were saying “amen,” that is to say “so be it.”

Revelation 19:5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great. 19:6 And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

John saw a crescendo of voices going up, from the least to the greatest in heaven.

Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

For centuries the Church was looking forward to this moment! To be with Christ forever, and ever. This is the moment of the “marriage of the Lamb.”

Note! The seven years in heaven is the time of consummation, Christ and the Church becoming one. And, the radiant bride will follow her husband to reign on earth, hereafter. See The Ancient Jewish Wedding

Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

The brides garments were made “clean and white” with the blood of Jesus Christ. God did the work, at the cross, to prepare believers for this wedding.

Note! This is a promise God made before to the Church, now fulfilled. Revelation 3:5 “The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white.”

Revelation 19:9 And he saith unto me, Write, blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, these are the true sayings of god.

In Jewish culture, the marriage supper was an occasion of tremendous joy. The bride followed the Groom, Jesus Christ, at the second coming, and she reigned with him.

Note! God made this promise before. “Revelation 2:26 “To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— that one ‘will rule them.”‘

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Angels and humans were created by God, and should worship, and serve, God only.

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.

John saw in his vision heaven opened up, and a rider on a white horse. This is the real Christ, and not the Antichrist we met before. See Revelation, Chapter 6

The title “Faithful and True” shows Jesus as the keeper of promises, faithful and true. The Old Testament prophets wrote about this moment, the second coming of Christ. God will establish the Millenial kingdom, as promised.

Note! The Jewish leaders rejected Jesus the first time He came to establish the promised kingdom. Though God has postponed this project, He never fails to deliver on His promises.

Revelation 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.

Nothing escapes God. Every scheme that was made in the dark, He saw it, and judged it. Every plan that was not in line with God’s plan, He consumed with fire.

The last time John saw Jesus, He was wearing a crown of thorns at the cross. How it must have pained Him to see his beloved Jesus like this. But now, John saw the same Jesus Christ wearing many crowns. He is the King of kings.

A name that “no man knew,” shows there is much we don’t know about God. We know enough to save us for eternity, but there is still much we don’t know about God.

Revelation 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

Isaiah gave a detailed description of what happened at the battle of Armageddon.

Isaiah 63:1-3 Who is this coming from Edom, from Bozrah, with His garments stained crimson? Who is this, robed in splendor, striding forward in the greatness of his strength? “It is I, proclaiming victory, mighty to save.” Why are your garments red, like those of one treading the winepress? “I have trodden the winepress alone; from the nations no one was with me. I trampled them in my anger and trod them down in my wrath; their blood spattered my garments, and I stained all my clothing.

Revelation 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses clothed in fine linen, white and clean.

Have you ever heard about an army going to a war “clothed in fine linen, white and clean?” No weapon to battle with? The bride followed Him to the battle, but she didn’t dirty her garments.

Revelation 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

This sword refers to the power of His Word. It is the same power that God spoke the creation into being. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Note! A winepress was a vessel used to squeeze the juice out of the grapes. John used it as a picture to describe to us what he saw. God spoke and His enemies’ blood flowed, like that of grape juice coming out of grapes in a winepress.

Revelation 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

He is the real Lord of the ring, and the King of all kings.

Revelation 19:17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 19:18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.

This angel shone brighter than the son, with the glory of God. And, he was calling all the birds to come and feast on the leftovers of the battle of Armageddon.

Note! The word “flesh” appears five times here. Those who walked in the flesh, were judged by their flesh. In contrast with the Church who was Raptured before. Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

Revelation 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war gainst him that sat on the horse, and against his army.

At this point, you might well ask, how could they be so delusional to think they can war against God? Demonic spirits lured them into battle against the Lord. Revelation 16:14 “They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.”

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake fo fire burning with brimstone.

The sea beast produced the false prophet, and the land beast produced the political leader, the Antichrist. See Revelation, Chapter 13. Together they worked to set up the Beast System, and together they went into the lake of fire.

Note! It took one single angel to bind Satan with a chain, and cast him in the abyss. Satan is not as powerful as many thinks he is. It is a delusion.

Revelation 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

God spoke, and they became the next meal of fowls.

The End.
