Angel of the Light

Scripture equates spiritual idolatry with adultery. Both makes for impure, and troubled relationships.

God calls it detestable, an abomination. And, He detests it!

Deuteronomy 7:25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. 26Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Why is God so vehemently against it? Idols, and images, seems like innocent bits of wood and metal. But, Scripture says behind it is a spirit of whoredom. Hosea 4:12 “They ask a piece of wood for advice! They think a stick can tell them the future! Longing after idols has made them foolish. They have played the prostitute, serving other gods and deserting their God.” (New Living Translation)

Every time you turn to an image or an idol, you are calling on another god.

Satan wants what God has, your worship. Isaiah 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! …. 14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

How does Satan get it? He inserts himself in biblical figures. He uses the alias of the mother of Jesus, saints, etc. Whatever it takes to get you to call on him instead. He is the great pretender. He hides in daylight, in the Church. 2 Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

People think God over reacts, it is only a piece of dumb wood or metal. But, God knows who and what is behind it. He has sets out from the beginning to stump it out:

  • God sent a flood in Noah’s time
  • God dispersed the nations at the Tower of Babylon
  • God established Israel, a people for Him alone
  • God forbids idolatry in the ten commandments
  • God commanded the genocide of seven nations
  • God warned Israel against it, through the prophets
  • God brought Israel into captivity for 70 years
  • God promised to judge it in the end times

Genesis 6:4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth….

Fallen angels left their habitat, and they came down to have children with the women. They also installed the worship of gods, in the form of images and idols. The world became wicked. See more Fallen Angels, before Noah.

Inanna, was one of these gods before the flood. She was the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, fertility, procreation, and war. She is still with us, today. The Akkadians and Assyrians called her Ishatar. The Phoenicians called her Astarte, and the Greeks Aphrodite. The Romans called her Mary. Her name changed, but the same dark spirit is behind it.

If you doubt, ask yourself why you eat chocolate eggs and bunnies during Easter (Ishtar). It hides inside the Church.

Shortly after the flood, we read about the Tower of Babel. Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod, was a high priestess of idol worhsip. When she gave birth to a son, called Tammuz, she claimed a miraculous conception. The sun being the father.

This happened in the land of the Chaldeans, Babylon. It became the fountainhead of Babylonian paganism, the mother-and-child worship.
God came down to disperse the nations, see Genesis 11. The people scattered over the world, and they brought with them Babylonian paganism. Thus, we see the same artefacts of “mother and child” all over the world, long before Christianity.

God called out of this cesspool of false religion, Abraham. A people for Him when the whole world bowed to the “mother and son” worship, God said “only me.”

God called out Abram, the father of what became Israel. Genesis 12:1 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.”

The ten commandments forbid idolatry. God alone, and no other besides Him.

Exodus 20:3″Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God….

Liberal theologists want to explain away the genocides in the Bible. But, God takes full responsibilty for it. These seven nations were into idolatry, and with that came evil and wickedness.

This is what brought God to destroy the world with a flood, to save humanity. Satan, and his fallen angels, blemished humanity, except for Noah and his sons. God commanded the genocide of seven nations to prevent the same thing to happen again.

Deuteronomy 7:1When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you— 2…Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy. 3Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons, 4for they will turn your children away from following me to serve other gods, and the Lord’s anger will burn against you and will quickly destroy you. 5This is what you are to do to them: Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones, cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols in the fire.

The pages of the Torah, the first five books in your Bible, are full of warnings against idolatry.  Here are some examples:

  • Leviticus 26:1 “Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.”
  • Numbers 33:52 drive out all the inhabitants of the land before you. Destroy all their carved images and their cast idols, and demolish all their high places.
  • Deuteronomy 16:21 Do not set up any wooden Asherah pole beside the altar you build to the Lord your God, and do not erect a sacred stone, for these the Lord your God hates.

When Israel drifted of into idolatry, God sent major and minor prophets to warn His people. Jeremiah and Ezekiel was two of them:

  • Jeremiah 44:17 We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our ancestors, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm.
  • Ezekiel 8:14 “Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’S house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.”

Alas, Israel did succumb to idolatry. Israel did not completed the genocide of the Canaanites, as God instructed them. As a result, the worship of Asherah survived and plagued Israel.

Judges 3:7 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgat the LORD their God, and served Baalim and the groves. 8Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel

Even king Salomon, who was the wisest man ever to live, fell into this abominable practice. 1 Kings 11:5 “For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess…. 6And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.”

God is long suffering, but one day He had enough of it. Israel went into captivity for 70 years. Jeremiah 25:6And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. 7Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the Lord 11And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

The book of Revelation is the consummation of all things. Idolatry, is on God’s list for the end times.

Twice in Revelation, God proclaimed that He will judge Babylon, in the exact same words. Revelation 14:8 “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great.” And again: “Revelation 18:2 “Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great.”

John sees the vision of this event, and he describes it in Revelation 17. My study on Revelation, Chapter 17, will follow soon.

The End.
