Explore 50 Statements of Who God Says I Am: Discovering Your True Identity

This article explores the transformative impact of embracing the 50 truths of who God says we are in Christ Jesus, as revealed in the Scriptures.

Let’s dive into these deeply founded statements that shape how we see ourselves and give us the confidence to live a full life, no matter the circumstances.

THE TRUTH THAT ANCHORS US

Every day, without fail, my dog Buddy started chasing his tail around in circles. He would bark as he attempted to catch it, only to find it eluding him each time. The more he chased, the faster his tail spun, leaving him in a whirlwind of excitement and confusion.

This reminded me of how often we, as Christians, find ourselves in a similar situation, chasing after things that we already have in Christ but are oblivious to.

In one of his influential expositions, Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones said, ‘The Christian’s greatest need is to become who we already are in Christ.’

This means that, as Christians, we already have a new identity in Christ. It’s not just a fact; it’s a source of immense empowerment. By understanding this truth and aligning our thoughts, beliefs, and actions with it, we can be anchored and fully experience it, thereby stepping into our true potential.

THE DIVINE EXCHANGE

How and when did we get this new identity? Every time someone comes to Jesus Christ to trust in Him, they benefit from a divine exchange. This means that our old self, with its sin and brokenness, is replaced with a new identity of who we are in Christ, which is righteous and whole.

2 Corinthians 5:21: “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

God imputed to Him, who had no sin, our sins. And God imputed to us, who had no righteousness of our own, the righteousness of Christ Jesus. This is God’s divine exchange.

God says you cannot do it in yourself. But in Christ Jesus, you are everything He always wanted you to be. God’s eyes see you and me in Jesus Christ, and He approves. That is how we qualify for His blessings.

THE SECRET TO A FLOURISHING CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE

When people come to Christ, they often think of what they must do. We think of teaching them how to read the Bible, attend church, etc. Though these actions are the outcome of your new identity, they are not at the core of what it means to be a Christian.

At the heart of Christianity lies our identity as defined by God in Christ. God perceives us either within Christ or apart from Him. Embracing the Gospel places us within Christ, allowing God to affirm us. Conversely, rejecting God’s Gospel leaves us standing alone before Him. It matters who God says I am.

Knowing who we are already in Christ will set us up for abundant life on earth. It is the secret to the Christian lifestyle and the way God intended for us to flourish in this world.

I encourage you to reflect on these truths and consider how they can transform your life.

MENTAL DIS-EASE AND MENTAL SUFFERING

The famous psychologist Marisa Peer has combined all her therapy into one phrase: “You are enough.” And she says, “When you know and believe you are enough, you don’t need more. When you feel and believe you are not enough, you will always want more.”

Since I am not a psychologist, I will only touch on this matter. However, it is quite the revelation to discover that our identity in Christ Jesus is the pathway to seeing and knowing that we are enough, according to Scripture.

Understanding who we are in Christ is crucial for our mental health; it’s a pathway to a sound mind. It helps us navigate the fluctuations of our feelings, the ups and downs of life, and the whims of circumstance, bringing a sense of relief and peace.

Moreover, comprehending our identity in Christ provides us with a profound sense of security and a strong feeling of belonging. This knowledge acts as a counterbalance to fear and anxiousness, offering a firm foundation on which to stand.

RIGHT BELIEVING MAKES FOR RIGHT LIVING

“Right believing makes for right living” is the key to living life with your head held high and your heart bowing to the Lord.

Understanding and living out the truths of who God says we are in Christ Jesus is not just a secret to a flourishing Christian lifestyle, it’s a pathway to immense fulfillment and deep satisfaction.

Knowing ourselves through the Gospel of Christ is the most magical and practical advice for everyone.

THE CRUX OF THIS TRUTH

This truth of who God says I am is hinged on the phrase ‘in Christ’, which refers to our new identity and position in Christ Jesus. Being ‘in Christ’ means that we are united with Him, sharing in His life, death, and resurrection, and all the benefits that come with it.

Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

When we list the “Who Gods says I am in Christ Jesus”, we might use some poetic licence, but the truth is deeply seated in Scripture.
