Revelation 8 is the first of the trumpet judgments. Jesus Christ himself broke six of the seven seals on the book scroll, in chapter 6. Then came a parenthesis, chapter 7, which deals with the 144,000 Jewish witnesses.
Now, Jesus Christ is about to break the 7th seal on the book scroll. This 7th seal breaks, and it unfolds like an accordian, into seven trumpet-judgments. These are far worse than the seal-judgments before.
Human agency, and forces, still operates in the seal-judgments. This represent the Antichrist, war, famine, and deadly plagues. But, the trumpet- and vial-judgments are God alone. There are two reasons for this:
- Science cannot explain what is happening, it is super natural.
- The earth-dwellers are not blaming the politicians, because they know this is supernatural, it is God. Revelation 16 “They cursed the name of God… but they refused to repent” (verse 9). “And cursed the God of heaven… but they refused to repent” (verse 11).
SIMILAR TO THE EXODUS IN EGYPT
When Israel was working as slaves in Egypt, God send plagues to force the pharaoh to let them go. These judgments are eerily similar to the trumpet- and vial-judgments in Revelation. The same God that broke the tyranny of Pharaoh, will break the fetters of nations’ ignorance, and the walls of pride and sin.
God said the Egyptians will know “that I am God” (Exodus 7:5 and 14:4). When Ezekiel wrote about the end times, he said: “Then the nations will know that I the LORD” (Ezekiel 37:28). And, “I will magnify and sanctify Myself, and will reveal Myself in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.” (Ezekiel 38:23)

THE 7TH SEAL, AND THE SILENCE
Revelation 8:1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
Half an hour of stillness in heaven in expectation of what is coming. Not a sound! Breathless anticipation before the first trumpet is sound, and God’s wrath being released.
TRUMPETS IN PLACE
Revelation 8:2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
Jesus Christ himself broke the seals, but now He is using angels to sound the seven trumpets.
ANGEL OFFERS INCENSE
Revelation 8:3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. 4. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
This is the altar of incense, not of sacrifice. An angel present the prayers of the saints with incense, on the golden altar before the throne. Remember when David said: “Let my prayer be counted as incense before you” (Psalm 141:2).
ASHES AS TOKEN
Revelation 8:5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
The “it” refers to the fire and hot ashes which filled the censer, and cast it on the earth.
Note! Remember when Moses and Aaron stood in front of Pharaoh in Egypt. Exodus 9:10 “So they took soot from a furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on people and animals.” The soot was the token in Egypt, and here the hot ashes are the token, of God’s judgments to come.
Revelation 8:6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
The four angels raised their trumpets to their mouths, ready to blow.
Note! Believe all you want about global warming or climate change. But, there will be supernatural, ecological, happenings during the Tribulation period. And here in Revelation, it is about to happen….
THE 1ST TRUMPET
Revelation 8:7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
Ecological judgment upon all the earth. Hail and fire, mixed with blood, destroys one-third of the vegetation on earth.
THE 2ND TRUMPET
Revelation 8:8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9. And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, did; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
A fireball from heaven is cast into the sea, and one-third of the water becomes blood. This destroys one-third of the living beings in the sea, and one-third of the ships on the sea.
THE 3RD TRUMPET
Revelation 8:10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters 11. And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because thy were made bitter.
A celestial body like a comet, or a star, falls on earth. One-third of the fresh waters, the rivers, the ponds, and the lakes become bitter. And, many people who drink from this water will die.
Having fresh, clean, drinkable water is vital to sustain human life. We are taking it for granted, but there will come a day that it will be utterly scarce.
THE 4TH TRUMPET
Revelation 8:12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
One-third of the celestial bodies becomes dark, and dimness falls on the earth.
WOE, WOE, WOE
Revelation 8:13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
Four trumpets have sounded, real ecological events rocked the earth. And, each one destroyed one-third of what was still left.
Now, an angel is proclaiming “three woes.” Every woe is about more distress that will come, unless there is change. No amount of preparation, government aid, or relief efforts will be able to bring recovery.
JOSHUA AND JESUS
Joshua is in many ways a “type of Jesus.” Jesus name in Hebrew is “Yeshua.” It is a version of the name of Joshua in Hebrew “Yehoshu’a.” It means salvation.
The book of Joshua is in many ways a scale model of the events in the book of Revelation. Joshua was a commander who took charge to take the land back from the usurpers. God gave the land to Abraham and his descendants, and Joshua took it back. Adam forfeited the earth to satan in the garden of Eden. In Revelation, Jesus is taking the earth back from it’s usurper.
Before the battle starts in Jericho, God send in witnesses to bring out Rahab. The witnesses were not there to get information, but only to bring out Rahab, and her family. Before the Tribulation, Jesus Christ will rapture His own. See more The Rapture
The one who fought and win the battle at Jericho was Jesus Christ. How do we know? At the end of Joshua 5, Joshua worships “the angel.” Joshua 5:14 “Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?” The battle of Armageddon, in Revelation 19, is Jesus Christ winning the battle on behalf of Israel, again.
