The War of Thrones

The King of kings

THE WAR

EARTHLY KINGDOM

The Bible tells us about a war, over an earthly Kingdom and its rightful ruler. One day, the triumphant ruler of that Kingdom will sit on the throne in Jerusalem, as the King of all the kings. Matthew 11:12 “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.”

The oath of the Lord stands, and He nows no defeat!

CONTROVERSY BEHIND THE WAR
This controversy goes back long ago, before God created the earth and us. Ezekiel 28:14-15 “You were anointed as a guardian cherub…. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.”

Satan became proud, and the secret purpose of his own heart revealed when he spoke to Eve. Genesis 3:5 “You can be like gods too.”

GOD WON THE WAR
Christ Jesus, after the crucifixion, did set up His spiritual kingdom.  Israel rejected the Messiah, therefore God allowed Satan to hold the physical throne over this present world. Satan will be allowed to sit on the throne in Jerusalem for a short while. And, he persecutes the Jews, again.

Satan had lost the war. But, the final battle for physical possession is yet to come, at Armageddon. A scroll with seven seals is the title deed for the earth, and Jesus Christ the worthy owner. Revelation 5:5 “The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”

TWO KINGDOMS?

There are two components to the Kingdom:
1. Kingdom of Heaven. A physical kingdom on earth for the Jews.
2. Kingdom of God. A spiritual kingdom for both Jews and Gentiles.

1. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN – physical

DAVIDIC COVENANT
The Davidic covenant is an unconditional covenant.  The realisation depends on God, and not on Israel.  God promised Israel a kingdom on earth, and a king to rule over it, from David’s line. The Bible tells us this king will rule over the whole earth, from Jerusalem. See more End Times, Israel

Every Jewish child learned this at their mothers’ knee. Because, it had been their national hope for years. Chastisement fell upon Israel in the captivities and the dispersion. But, the eternal purpose of the covenant was never abrogated.
GABRIEL
The angel Gabriel confirmed the covenant to Mary. Luke 1:32 “The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”

MATTHEW
Matthew presents Jesus as the King with His kingdom in full view, and ready to fulfil the covenant. Mattthew 2:2 “Born King of the Jews.” Furthermore, he produced a full genealogy to proof Jesus is the son of David.

MESSIAH
“Mashiach” in Hebrew means the “anointed one”. To this day every king and queen on earth are “anointed” into their position.  Zechariah 9:9-10 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Behold, your king is coming to you…. His dominion will be… to the ends of the earth.”

ONLY THE JEWS
Jesus told his disciples “not to go among the Gentiles.” (Matthew 10:5) Likewise, He told them “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew 15:24) He came to fulfil the covenant to David, concerning Israel.

When Jesus came riding on a donkey into Jerusalem, no one had to explain to the Jews about a promised king. Luke 19:38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” Mark 11:10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!”

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Jesus told the Jewish disciples this prayer before He went to the cross. It is in anticipation of a kingdom on the earth as promised to the Jews. “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”

Gentile blessings are not endangered by a faithful recognition of this distinctly Jewish purpose as stated. The promises were made unto the Jewish fathers, not the Gentiles.

2. KINGDOM OF GOD – spiritual

Whether Jew or Gentile, everyone who accepts the gospel that Jesus died for, enters into the spiritual Kingdom of God.

A MYSTERY
The Kingdom of God was a mystery to the Old Testament writers. Colossians 1:26-27 “Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is manifest to his saints…. Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

SPIRITUAL
This Kingdom of God is not a physical kingdom, to the contrary.  Romans 14:17 “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.”

NEW BIRTH
We enter into this spiritual kingdom when we are born again. Joahn 3:5 “No one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”

JEWISH CONFUSION

The idea of a spiritual kingdom was so foreign to the Jewish mind, and they struggled to come to terms with it. Old Testament prophets wrote about it. Yet, when it came, they could not see it.

Yet, God in His mercy, never gave up on them! Instead of the nation Israel, God raised individual Jews, to spread the gospel.

PAUL
Paul was brought up at the feet of Gamaliel, “according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers.” (Acts 22:3) He could not even begin to see the spiritual kingdom. God had to transform Paul into a “new creature” on the road to Damascus. Afterwards, God brought him to the desert for three years to empty out his old ways. Since then, he ceased not to pray for others who had a “zeal for God” that they too, might be saved.

THE DISCIPLES
After the resurrection, Jesus gave the disciples instructions about the spiritual Kingdom of God, for forty days. Acts 1:3 “After his suffering…. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.”

The disciples struggled to grasp the beginning of a new “age of grace.” We see it when they asked again about the physical kingdom. Acts 1:6 “Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Jesus did not tell them their physical Kingdom on earth is being abandoned. Neither does He tell them it is being merged into a spiritual conquest of all nations. He simply states: Acts 1:7 “It is not for you to know the times.”

CHRISTIAN CONFUSION

God is not finished with Israel, but He is just about finished with the Gentiles. Their time is running out.

The Jews struggled with the beginning of the “age of grace”, and the Church are struggling with the end of it. Many Christians overwhelmed by the idea of it, and they cannot see.

When we see how faithful God has been to Israel, it should strengthen our faith. God in His mercy, will never give up on us either!

THE HATED PROSPECT

The whole world reviles at the prospect of hated Israel becoming the ruling nation on earth. Zehariah 8:22 “And many people and strong nations will come to Jerusalem to seek the Lord.”

Above all, the unsaved world does not want the Lord Jesus Christ to return and to rule over them. Luke 19:27 “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay (them) before me.”

God made a covenant with David, and He will fulfil it.  At the right time, Jesus Christ will sit on the throne in Jerusalem, as promised.
