LAST ONE STANDING
The book of Revelation tells us about the last church. A church that is busy with the things of the world, and Jesus Christ is very low on the list.
Jesus gave John 7 letters, addressed to the 7 churches in Asia minor, todays’ Turkey. These churches is an analogy of church history, from the first church in Ephesus, to the last church in Laodicea.
Laodicea represents the church of our day, and it is a church of apostasy. It is busy with the things of the world, and Jesus Christ has no place in it. Revelation 3:20 “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.”
FAITH GROWS COLD
Jesus Christ was speaking of the age of the last church too when He spoke of the “signs of the end of the age.” He describes a time when the gospel will leave people cold. Matthew 24:12 “Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.”
Astonishing, this church of Laodicea makes Jesus wants to vomit. It wants to blend in with the world, and it becomes lukewarm. The gospel that Jesus died for, diluted to render it ineffective. Revelation 3:16 “Because you are lukewarm… I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”
The last church has plenty of the material things the world has to offer. Yet, Jesus says they are poor in spirit, and they don’t know it. Revelation 3:17 “You say, I am rich… But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor…..”
Jesus says the last church is naked and does not see it. Revelation 3:17″ …. you are…. blind and naked.” To understand more about this nakedness, let’s look at Ephesians 6. It says: “put on the armour of God…. truth, the gospel, faith, and the word of God.”
Imagine this, you have no clothes and you are growing cold. As soon as someone hand you some, you will take it. This is how the New World Religion steps in to help out those who “knew nothing about what would happen” (Matthew 24:39).
ONE WORLD RELIGION
The One World Order seeks to control everything, like a ferocious beast. It includes religion. Today, we are witnessing the rise of the antichrist, like labour pains.
THE GREAT PRETENDER
Satan imitates God’s ways, because He wants what God has, worship. The Greek for “anti” does not mean “opposed to”, but rather “in the place of.” We can understand more about the coming of the antichrist in this light.
False prophet – God the Spirit
We are witnessing today the “false prophet” at work. The church of Laodicea, the last church, is following after the world. 1 Timothy 4:1 “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.”
Antichrist – God the Son, Jesus Christ
The antichrist will claim to be Christ. We see, in Revelation 6, how he enters into the world on a white horse, but he has a bow in his hands. And, he rolls out 7 years of continues trouble. To the contrary, when Christ Jesus appears, in Revelation 19, He is on a white horse with a sword in his mouth. He speaks, and it brings and end to the trouble. This rolls out a new beginning, the Millennium.
Satan – God the Father
The book of Revelation refers to Satan as “the dragon, that old serpent” (Revelation 12:9). This is the same old serpent that appeared in the Garden of Eden in the book of Genesis. It comes full circle.
Satan will inhabits the antichrist in person, for 3,5 years. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 “He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.”
He gets what he always wanted, worhsip. This is not optional, he enforces it. Revelation 13:4 “They worshiped the dragon (satan)…. and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast.” 15. “It cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.”
For the last 2000 years people are saying “the end is nigh.” What make us think we are at the end of the end times? See more End Times, the signs
The prophet Isaiah warned Israel of the imminent danger in his time too. Israel did not take heed, and suffered the consequences. We read this in Isaiah 5, and the similarities to our day is staggering.
8. “What sorrow for you who buy up house after house and field after field, until everyone is evicted and you live alone in the land.
9.They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties… but they never think about the Lord or notice what He is doing.
10. Humanity will be destroyed, and people brought down; even the arrogant will lower their eyes in humiliation.
11. What sorrow for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies, who drag wickedness behind them like a cart!
12. They even mock God and say, “Hurry up and do something! We want to see what you can do. Let the Holy One of Israel carry out his plan, for we want to know what it is.”
20. What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil….
21. What sorrow for those who are wise in their own eyes and think themselves so clever. 24.They have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. The mountains tremble, and the corpses of his people litter the streets like garbage. But even then the Lord’s anger is not satisfied.” (New Living Translation)
It came to pass, and Assyria created tablets showing them skinning their victims alive. They were gauging their eyes out, and putting them on stakes. They took the northern ten tribes of Israel into captivity. Years later, the Babylonians came in to take the southern two tribes, Judah and Benjamin.
Have you ever wondered whether the flood of Noah was for real? Did this event really destroy all flesh on the whole earth? Jesus himself refers to it when He compared it with the coming of the Son of Man.
Matthew 24:37-39 “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. They knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.”
OUR HOPE IN THIS TIME
Believers in Christ are to hold on to the gospel, and to Scripture, even when the leaders of denominations follow after the beast.
1 Corinthians 1:18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
