SCOPE, THE TIMELINE
The bible gave us a clear scope of the end times. Someone asked “can we start 2020 over?” For people of faith, and even no faith at all, it feels like the world is in turmoil.
A LIGHT FOR OUR FEET
God is sovereign, and His word a light for out feet. He want His children to fix their eyes on His scope of the end times, not that of the world. 2 Peter 1:19 “We have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place.”
CAN WE KNOW THE FUTURE?
Is it possible that the Bible can tell us details about the “end times”? God says the one thing that only He can do, is to tell the future before it happens. See more Prophecy, a solid foundation.
A SEQUENCE OF EVENTS
The Biblical “end times” does not refer to a single event, often referred to as Armageddon or Apocalypse. Rather, it refers to a sequence of events that happens one after the other. A time of chaos and calamities like the world has never seen, including World War I and II.
This happens because God is moving to fulfill Bible prophecy of the end times. To be able to see this amazing outline of the end times, you need to take the Bible literal. Trust God, and trust His plan.
LITERAL, OR ALLEGORICAL
DANIEL REWARDED FOR TRUSTING
We read in the Bible that Daniel trusted Bible prophecy, and he got to see more. For God foretold through the prophet Jeremiah that the “land shall be a desolation”. The Jews would “serve the king of Babylon for seventy years” (Jeremiah 25:11)
DANIEL TOOK IT LITERAL
Daniel is reading his Bible, and he takes the timeline of bible prophecy literal. He assumes the prophecy of Jeremiah is precise, and makes calculations (70 – 67 = 3).
Daniel 9:1-2 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahaseurus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans (Babylonians). In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
A few verses further, we read “while I was still in prayer” the angel Gabriel appear to Daniel. “Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding.” (Daniel 9:21). Daniel received that day much insight, for his time and for the end time.
THE DANIEL PROPHECY
We see a precise outline for the end times in the book of Daniel. Daniel 9:24 Seventy sevens are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.
The Hebrew scholars explain. The “seventy sevens” is a 70 multiplied by 7’s. We can calculate 70 x 7 = 490. A “seven” are referred to as a week, because of the 7 days. We know Daniel is not speaking of days or weeks, but of years.
69 WEEKS NOW, 1 WEEK LATER
Daniel 9:25. Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the King shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troubled times.
The “seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks” are 7 and 62. We can calculate 7 + 62 = 69 weeks. Every week has 7 days. Thus, we can calculate 69 x 7 = 483 years.
What does this mean? The Decree of Artaxerxes Longimanus was given on 14 March, 445 BC. From this day until Jesus Christ came riding on a donkey, into Jerusalem, was exactly 483 years (69 weeks). Sir Robert Anderson did the calculations in 1894. A huge effort since he had to take in consideration all variables for eg. years was 360 days long, etc. Note, this is one week short of 70 weeks.
As prophecied by Daniel, Messiah came, but He was cut-off after 69 weeks . The Jews rejected Him, and crucified Him. The Bible says not for Himself, because He turned to the Gentiles. He was cut-off for the Jews.
Daniel 9:26 “After threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself…”
THE 70TH WEEK
You will realise that 490 years was promised, but He was cut-off after 483 years. This leaves one week, that is 7 years, to be still fulfilled. These 7 years is also referred to as Daniel’s 70th week.
The promised kingdom on earth “project” was put on ice after “69 weeks”. We are in the “parenthesis” that is lasting for 2000 years. The outstanding one week is about to begin when God will deal with Israel, as promised. Romans 11:1 “Did God reject his people? By no means! 8. God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that could not see and ears that could not hear, to this very day.”
God is not done with Israel, but He will come again to fulfil His promises to Israel. See more End Times, Israel
Looking at the scope of the End Times, and we are waiting for our blessed hope, the Rapture. This will kick-off Daniel’s 70th week, this period of 7 years. The Rapture is when believers in Christ are caught up to heaven. See more The Rapture.
Believers in Christ, the Church, is also referred to as the “salt of the earth”. Matthew 5:12-13 “Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven… You are the salt of the earth.”
Salt was a food preservative. It creates an environment resistant to spoilage and rot. The Rapture removes the “salt of the earth”, and what stays behind will become rapidly evil.
THE OUTSTANDING WEEK
Jesus Christ was cut-off at the crucifixion. Since then, until now, is a parenthesis of 2000 years. The one week, 7 years, will start as soon as the church is Raptured out. The tribulation refers to the peak of this apocalyptic time, the last 3,5 years of this 7 years.
The tribulation is kicked off when the earth dwellers get the “king” they always wanted, the antichrist. Satan himself appears “in the midst of the week” to inhabit the antichrist (Daniel 9:27). The most awful time the world has ever seen is when satan himself will rule from Jerusalem.
Now, satan has another change to try and wipe the Jews of the earth. This is the moment Jesus referred to when He said: “let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains” (Matthew 24:16). Satan demands worship “and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed” (Revelation 13:15).
At the end of the 7 years, Messiah will come. The nations unite against God, but He destroys them at the valley of Megiddo. This is the famous event when “they gathered the kings together at Armageddon.” That is when “they marched up, but fire come down and devours them.” (Revelation 16:16 and 20:9).
Unbelieving Israel, who has been put on ice for 2000 years, will come to faith as a nation during the tribulation. A glorious time follows when Messiah will live with His people, and He himself will rule from Israel.
This is the time Isaiah saw in a vision when he wrote: Isaiah 11:6 “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat… and a little child will lead them.
NEW HEAVEN AND NEW EARTH
After 1000 years, we see the great white throne, and eternity starts. I will write more about this later.
