Sin is serious. In the beginning, Adam and Eve were innocent. When they sin, they became self conscious and tried to cover themselves with fig leaves. God instead, gave them the skin of animals to cover themselves.
If humanity ever had a wake up call. This must have been it. Sin is serious, and fig leaves are not going to make it right. Trying to do good, is not good enough. Blood has to flow.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. Do notice the word “all”, there are no exceptions.
THE LAW VS GRACE
THE SCHOOLMASTER
The law was the schoolmaster to steer the world to a Savior. Galations 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto christ, that we might be justified by faith.
God used a substitute, Moses, to gave the law under the Old Covenant. When Jesus Christ came, He himself brought grace to us. John 1:17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
God is not interested in mere obedience. God is love, and He longs to have an intimate relationship with you. The cross dealt with our sin, therefore we can be close to God.
FAITH, REALLY?
Do you know that the Holy Spirit did not indwell everyone in the Old Testament, under the law. The Holy Spirit came after the crucifixion, at Pentacost. God knows how desperate we need the Holy Sprit.
It is very hard for us to understand that faith alone saves us. It is not natural. The flesh in us wants rules, the schoolmaster. The world functions by do good, get good. God’s grace is out of step with the world.
That is why God send the Holy Spirit. To convince us, and once we’re convinced to keep it in us. It always wants to leave us.
How can we score better marks if there are no rules. Exactly! You score by believing in what Christ did for you. Blood saves you, not fig leaves.
SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS
Did you know that the so-called “unpardonable sins” does not exist in the Bible.
The only sin that God never forgives is when we reject his Son, Jesus Christ. When we are too proud to admit we need a Savior outside of ourselves, Jesus Christ. Galatians 2:21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”
It is hard to believe that our own pride is what stands between us and heaven. People insist on being a good person. It is like an alcoholic that refuses to admit he needs help.
SIN IS A CONDITION
The law was not designed to make you godly, but to expose your ungodliness.
We did not become sinners by committing sin, but because of Adam’s sin. By the same token, we become righteous not because of what we do. But, because of what Jesus did at the cross. Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. This is the reason why the Bible calls Jesus the “last Adam” and the “second Man.”
WHAT TO DO?
Rest in what Christ did for you, His finished work at the cross. Rejoice in the fact that your sins has been dealt with. It has been punished on Another.
You do not need to punish yourself!
God is not in the business to change people’s habits. He will change your heart. Sin loses its appeal when you encounter the Person of grace, Jesus Christ. It will make you desire a lifestyle that guards the glory of Jesus Christ. Romans 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Trust God to bring forth fruit in you, living a holy life!
You need to understand that you are a sinner, it will propel you to find a Saviour. Pain is what propels you to find a doctor, but when you find him, don’t insist on being sick. Take your medicine, and be grateful.
Remind yourself that you are forgiven, and thank God for it. Rejoice in Jesus Christ. That is the best confession there is.
