The interpretation of the Bible is not difficult. It takes a bit of time, and when you settle in, you will become comfortable with it. 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion.”
GET TO KNOW THE LORD
Actually, reading the Bible and prophecy is not about getting it right. It is about spending time with God, and He will reveal his Son, Jesus Christ, to you. Even prophecy is all about Him. See more Prophecy, a solid foundation
Too many people are not comfortable reading the Bible. It is a tragedy. Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and and a light to my path.
God is a God of order, and structure. There is nothing random about Him. In fact, God has a plan and nothing will change its course. Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. As you become familiar with the Bible, you will become familiar with the character of God. Likewise, with God’s plans and His ways.
Much harm is being done in the name of prophecy by setting dates, but God himself is restoring His word in the last days. God wants us to be aware of the signs of the times, not dates.
As you are going down this pathway, there are some road signs that will serve you well. Let us look at a few here.
The late Chuck Missler use to say, if in doubt take it literal. It took a lot of courage for me to trust the Bible to that extent. Yet, when I did, it opened up to me like never before. For the first time, I could stand back and see the whole elephant. Before I was like a blind person, touching the big feet, the trunk, the leathery skin, and ending up more confused.
Especially when we read the bible prophecies, it is of utmost importance to take it literal. Trust God. We read in Isaiah 46:9-10 I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me. 10.Declaring the end from the beginning.
2. CONTEXT IS KEY
The context of a verse in the Bible is key. You will understand more about a verse when you look at the whole chapter. The background gives much necessary information to deepen your understanding.
3. DIVIDES CORRECTLY
We read in Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightlydividing the word of truth. There are basic divisions in the bible for eg. the Old Testament vs the New Testament. A time when the people are under the law, and a time when people are under grace.
Knowing and understanding the biblical dispensations is most helpful. I will discuss this topic in more detail in another blog.
4. JEW OR GENTILE
The Bible divides us into Jew, gentile or church. The gentiles refers to everyone that is not a Jew. The church refers to those, Jew or gentile, who has accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour.
All the writings of the bible is for our information. Still, everything is not addressed to us. Peter, John, and James wrote in the first place to the Jews. Paul wrote to the church first, and then to the Jews.
5. TRUST THE HOLY SPIRIT
There is a verse that Has always inspired me to lean in to the word of God. 1 Johm 2:27 But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher, trust Him.
This does not mean that I don’t like to listen to speakers and teachers. To the contrary, I love it, but the Holy Spirit is the author of my heart. He knits together what is necessary to make you whole.
For this reason, I came to understand a phenomenon. Something in the Bible that makes me burst of excitement, might mean little to others. And, vice versa. This does not mean that one should stop sharing. I have also said the most insignificant, according to me, and it became someone’s Eureka moment.
6. OLD KING JAMES BIBLE
There are different translations of the bible. Most bible scholars do trust the old King James Version. Don’t get yourself in a knot about it. There are wonderful tools to help us squeeze every bit of juice out of every word.
One of my favourite tools has to be the comparable translations next to each other. In one swoop you are able to see all the different translations of every bible verse. This is at www.biblehub.com.
7. BIBLE INTERPRETS BIBLE
The New Testament is conceal in the Old Testament. The Old Testament is reveal in the New Testament.
Cross references is powerful when you study the bible. It helps you to see the hidden becomes alive. In most bibles it is the notes placed next to the biblical text which directs you to another place.
8. INTEGRATED MESSAGE
Forty different authors wrote the entire bible. It covers a period of about 1500 years. Yet, the message is one integrated message. There are no errors, and no contradictions.
9. LEAN IN
Mat 7:7 Seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened unto you. God has promised that you will find Him if you seek Him. He is not in the business of hiding, but to reveal himself to those who seek Him. Those who love Him.
Would you want a friend whose only interested in what he can get from you? Or would you want a friend who likes you for who you are? God is the same.
It has always been my earnest prayer to God, to reveal His son Jesus Christ to me. “I want to know Jesus Christ. Show me more about your son Lord.” God has blessed me with amazing insight in His word, and He still does.
